Looking for power of attorney attestation Indian embassy Sharjah services? Sharjah residents can attest a power of attorney for use in India in one of two ways: sign it in person before an Indian consular officer at one of the Indian consular application centres in Sharjah, or have it notarised in the UAE, attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then by the Indian Consulate in Dubai. We handle the second route for you from start to finish, collecting the document at your door and returning it there.
Power of Attorney Attestation Indian Embassy Sharjah: Where Do You Go?
There is no Indian embassy in Sharjah. The embassy sits in Abu Dhabi, while Sharjah, together with Dubai and the other Northern Emirates, falls under the Consulate General of India in Dubai. The consulate no longer receives applicants directly, however. Since 22 July 2026, passport, visa and attestation services have been handled by sixteen Indian Consular Application Centres (ICACs), according to the official Indian Embassy announcement.
Residents of the Emirate of Sharjah have four centres to choose from:
- Al Majaz: Bel Rashid Tower on Corniche Street.
- Al Qasimiah: the Indian Association Sharjah building.
- Kalba and Khor Fakkan: for residents of the East Coast.
Appointments are booked online through consularsevainuae.com, and applicants may enter no earlier than fifteen minutes before their slot. In practice, every Sharjah resident who signs before the consulate ends up at one of these centres.

Route One: Signing Before the Consular Officer
This route suits those with time to attend in person. The Indian mission’s attestation guidelines require:
- The executant in person with the original passport; no one may sign on their behalf.
- The original power of attorney and a duplicate, both signed before the consular officer, not beforehand.
- A copy of the first five passport pages and of the valid residence visa page.
- A recent passport photo of the executant on the top of the first page, plus one of the attorney if present.
The service is usually completed the same day. Waiting for an early slot, then the drive and the queue, can still cost you half a working day.

Route Two: Attest a Power of Attorney for India Without Leaving Home
On this route you never stand before the consular officer, because the consulate attests a UAE document that has already been notarised and officially attested. It passes through four stages:
| Comparison | Signing before the consular officer | Notary, then MOFA, then the consulate |
|---|---|---|
| Personal presence | Mandatory at the centre. | Not required at the consulate. |
| Appointment | Booked online in advance. | We arrange it for you. |
| Timeframe | Same day, once you have a slot. | A few working days. |
| Best for | Those who prefer to go in person. | Busy professionals who cannot lose a day. |

What Happens After the Power of Attorney Reaches India?
Attestation does not end at the consulate’s stamp. A power of attorney signed outside India must be stamped with the state stamp authority within three months of its arrival, under Section 18 of the Indian Stamp Act. If that window is missed, the document is not void, but it can be impounded until the duty is paid with a penalty, as the Andhra Pradesh High Court held in one case.
If the purpose is to buy or sell property, the Sub-Registrar’s office may also require the power of attorney to be registered. Since duties and procedures differ from state to state, your attorney should consult a local lawyer before using it.
Mistakes That Send a Power of Attorney Back Halfway
- Name mismatches: a single letter that differs from the passport can stop the process.
- Vague powers: if the purpose is a specific property, state its address and details.
- Arabic-only wording: without a certified English translation.
- Asking for an apostille: the UAE is not a member of the Hague Convention, so consular attestation applies, as our guide to apostille attestation explains.
- Expired passport or residence visa: at the time of signing.
